I would appreciate comments on PVC vs CPE shower pan liner. In addition, how about the TCA recommendation that such a liner be run all the way up the walls where steamroom shower use is contemplated. A friend on another list, as well as serveral local tile installers feel that it is unnecessary & overkill to do so behind the wonderboard backer board on an allover basis. Thanks in advance for your opinions! jim 980516

The liner is to protect the structure against water leaks through the tile. A steam shower does not have any more probablility of water leaks than a regular shower and thus does not need any greater protection.: I would appreciate comments on PVC vs CPE shower pan liner. This can be a serious problem on exterior walls, which are cooler. There are 2 different types of steam shower membranes,I prefer the trowel-on system that is manufactured by Mapei, I believe that it is PR235. Its a powder and liquid that when dries is flexible and thinset adheres to it well.Dont risk not using a membrane, I have ripped out alot of these and its a big mess and expensive.
