We bought our home new 15-years ago. It had gas hot water heater. The gas unit broke and flooded the den after 4-years. It was under warranty, and was replaced. Today–11-years later, the second gas hot water heater broke and flooded the den. In other homes, we always had electric hot water heaters, and I dont remember having this problem. Is it usual for gas units? Also, does it cost more to heat with an electric unit and are they as efficient?: I am interested on information about tankless, electric hot water heaters.
