Thanks a million! Actually, after reading your reply, I went in and began to melt the lead pipe close to the nipple only to find that there is a 6″ length of 1 1/2″ copper inserted into the nipple. I am now on my way to Home Depot to but a 1 1/2″ copper cap that I can solder on the end of this piece. This took all of about 5 minutes, after wasting hours yesterday trying to unscrew that adapter.
