There should be Flo-control valve on the pipe out of the boiler to prevent that problem. It is usually red but could be some other color. If it is there, it has a lever on the top that can be rotated clockwise to lift the gate and allow gravity circulation. Screwing it counterclockwise restores it to a forced system.
