: Is there any code to be concerned with in connecting building fire sprinklers with the landscape irrigation system?Ok several things come to mind. 1- Flow rates. If your using the irrigation how will this effect your K factor per head?. 2- Fire supression systems normally are black steel piping and using this system for Irrigation will hasten this system to rust out. 3- Some codes allow the sprinkler system to be taken off the domestic water supply for a certain number of heads. Most plumbers have no idea of the NFPA codes so asking a local guy may not help much. I happen to hold several licenses including a Master Plumbers and a Master Fire Supression piping contractors as well as a Stationary Engineers so being an Expert I learned to read the Local codes. As a general opinion Dont even think of taking ANY line off a fire supression system. Take a line off the domestic USE non Ferrious materials and Get an APPROVED Back flow prevention device or better yet try using an air gap over a tank THEN pump the water to the fields. Much safer . OR call a Master Plumber ..READ the NFPA section 13 ( national Fire Protection Association) Sprinkler Systems are much more dependent on sizing than plumbing sprinklers depend on lots of cool sizing stuff. Have a great one
