: : My water hammer problem is interesting in that not only does it happen when a valve (any valve in the house) is closed but also when a valve is opened! Happens like this; open a valve, the pipes hammer and pressure/volume is reduced a bit. Then the hammering stops and pressure/volume is restored. Turn the valve off – even slowly, and the pipes hammer.: If I close the water heater inlet valve the pipes do NOT hammer. This, of course leads me to believe there is a problem with the water heater but I simply cant figure out what it might be. I need to add that the heater is at least 7 years old but the problem only recently started.: Thanks in advance for any advise!: Dan Check the h/w temperature AND flush out the bottom from sediment Good luck
