You didnt say but I am going with, that you have an electric water heater. Make sure you have power by checking the breaker box and seeing that all breakers are still on. After that check to see if there is a red reset button on top of the unit you may have to unscrew the side panel to get to it if it is not on top. Keep in mind that you have a live probably 220 Volt that could kill, so be careful about any bare wires. The red reset should be visible when you take off the side door. If it doesnt reset that is when you want to disconnect all power to the unit before doing anything else. My recomendation is to call a Licensed Plumbing Contractor if the re-set button does not work for you. Good Luck.
