: My hot water heater always clicks off and i have to reset the switch. sometimes the water gets so hot that the pressure valve on the top of the tank opens up and steam and water starts shooting out. i have already replaced the thermostats and the elements. what else could be wrong? this really has me puzzled. please help!!Make sure the thermostats are pushed firmly against the metal wall of the tank.What do you have the thermostat settings on?Are you sure it is wired properly?If you have a voltmeter or indicator you could check to see which element was on when the water is getting to hot. This could help narrow down the problem.If you find the problem I would like to hear about it.
