: The water pipes in my home run very loudly when using the bathtub faucet until the shower is turned on. At that point, it runs nice and quiet. The loud noise can be heard throughout the house and is loud enough to wake people. This only happens when using the bathtub.: Can this be fixed? What could the problem be?Very simply YES. The problem is the volume traveling through this system. A shower head is normaly supplied by a 1/2 diameter pipe nd this is furter reduced by the very small holes in the shower head. You can alleviate this noise by installing a tub spout with a half inch connection rather than a 3/4. This is a common problem.Delta makes a great tub spout with a bult in diverter that may be just perfect for you. Of course as you decrease the piping size you will increase the velocity ( pressure remains constant) and this may cause a whistling sound. Just use the volume control to decrease the fill speed. good Luck..Slvan
