Tom: Here in the San Diego area we charge $150.00 to camera sewer line AND locate exact path sewer takes from house to street or alley. This entire job should take 1 experienced guy no more than an hour.Unless you have an extrodinary situation it is very rare you would ever need to replace entire sewer line. Most sewer line problems which require dig up are caused by roots which have grown into pipe causing blockage which cant easily be cleared by cable/snake. Most of these are isolated to one spot which should be located, dug up, and repaired. Naturally there are many possible variables (soil, depth, obstacles, etc.) but lets discuss average job.Digging under lawn or dirt (not concrete or asphalt)a trench 3 wide by 6 deep by 15 long, take out existing root-bound pipe, replace with new ABS, install 1 or 2 clean-outs brought to the surface, bury pipe & compact trench. This job can easily be done in 8 hrs or less by 2 laborers and 1 plumber total cost $800. This price includes all parts and labor.I am very distrustful of anyone who would approach this job by threatening to dig up entire yard looking for sewer line. Why have things even progressed this far and why do you even need sewer line dug up? This in its self is somewhat unusual and often a ruse by dishonest or incompetent plumbers to get their hand on your wallet. E-mail me if you need to discuss further, Id be glad to help. Lane. [email protected] have seldom ever spent more than: Is there a detection device commonly being : used by plumbers for finding broken sewerage : pipes and pinpointing location. My plumber is threatening to dig up my whole back yard to find my broken pipe. : Any idea what range I should expect to pay to have a pipe replaced ??
