There are just as many that leak from the top. But you do have to replace it.: My hot water heater appears to have been leaking from the top edge of the tank. At one spot, the metal at the top seal of the tank looks rusted and long rust stains seem to emanate from there down the side of the tank. Is this an indication that I need to replace the hot water heater? I thought these things usually leaked from the bottom.
