: : I am in year 12 and would like to become a plumber, as this is certainly the trade that I can exel in. : : Would it be possible to get any information that would help me to become a good plumber in anyway way, : : or just some basic plumbing knowledge of how to get started.: Glad you asked how to become a professional instead a a jack leg bum. To become a plumber the best way is to try to get into a plumbing apprenticeship. My apprenticeship was 5 years (10,000 hours)after this 5 years of training you take a journeymans test. Hopefully you willl pass and become a jourmeyman plumber or steamfitter. Now you get to work in the field for appx 7-10 years before you are allowed to take the Master Plumbers exam. As a journeymen you can only work on plumbing under the direct employ of a MasterPlumber. Plumbing is very, VERY rewarding. Never are any 2 jobs exactly alike. What you put into this profession you will get back. If you try to take short cuts your just wasting your time. Plumbing is an on going learning experience, but the rewards are amazing money and personal satisfaction. Not to brag but this Wed I was hired for my expertise on roof drains and for less than 3 hours LABOR only I was paid $1,500 ( plus Tax)I have had employees making over $45.00 per hr in the envelope ( American dollars)Again plumbing is no longer just a trade. It is a Profession and like any profession YOU MUST KEEP ABREAST of current materials and codes. The best part about this field is you can never ever learn it all. No one can. The work can be frustrating and rewarding at the same time. Im doing this work since im 17 (US navy)and this month ILL be 52 and I still love doing it more every day. I am constantly being challanged mentally and this keeps the mind active. Unless you are willing to dedicate at least 7 years just for training then plumbing/ Steam fitting may not be for you. As a Master Plumber I have been called as an expert witness several times and I never lost a case. Go to a construction site and look around. Amazing We plumbers do protect the health of the nation. Un like doctors we seek prevention rather than cure. Good luck and study math alot.
