: THERE IS A HISSING SOUND COMING FROM THE HOT WATER HEATER. I TURNED THE HEAT DOWN, BUT IT STILL MAKES THE NOISE. COULD IT BE THE PRESSURE RELEASE VALVE OR A LEAK?Check the outlet of the pressure relief valve to see if any water is coming out. It might be plumbed to the outside of your house. Or you might have condensation. Does the noise come and go or is it constant? If it only occurs when the water heater is heating water it may very well be condensation being boiled away.Bill Lund
