: what causes phantom flushing and how do you fix it. ThanksThat is a wonderful name for it phantom flushing I do like it. Well there are a few thing that will drop the water level in the tank and cause it to fill. One is if the flapper , the second is if the flush valve seal is leaking and the third is if the water level is to high. If the water level is to high and going into the overflow tube you may be able to adjust the ballcock arm or replace it. If the flapper is bad just remove it and replace it. Now if the flush valve seal is bad you will have to remove the tank from the toilet and remove the large nut and the bottom of the tank and it will allow you to remove the flush valve seal and replace it. so good luck with it .. your friend the pipexpert
