C.:–Sounds like a sewer or branch drain problem from here. Try to locate the clean-out and remove the cover…flush the toilet and see if it becomes apparent. If you are renting..let the Landlord do it for you…Bud..I live in a basement apt. of a home built approx. 1950s. the toilet in this apt. was replaced and since this sewer smell has been our daily companion. The problem is that we have tried every simple solution and no luck – the toilets seal was replaced (never did leak water), drain cleaner was put into the system, the known vents were cleaned out.: The smell can be detected outside the house. When the toilet upstairs is flushed our toilets water level rises and gas bubbles are released.: Help!
