: This is a desperate attempt to learn the best way to put in a French : drain. If you can send plans for one I would appreciate it. Or : suggestions. We have a small piece of property in Washington State in : the USA. Our washing machine is not able to drain and we must dig a : new drain field. We were wondering which is the best way. We cant : find much infor here as most people have their washers hooked up to : their septic system. We found out after we bought our home that the : washer was set up to a French drain in our backyard. It would cost lots : of money we dont have to connect it to our septic system in our front : yard. We live out in the country. Were looking for ideas to dig a : new one. Any suggestions. A box 3x 3 is made of 2×6 treated lumber. This would be four sides and a top. we leave about 3/4 crack between all boards and cover the sides with landscape cloth(no bottom).The top boards can be tight together. Often it helps to dig hole larger and fill in around sides with gravel after box is in place. good luck
