The heater may have a defective thermostat or element, the city pressure could have been increased, or the valve is just getting old. They should be tested yearly and replaced every three or four years anyway.: In the last few days my electric water heater has started relasing water out of the release valve (yes I realize the valve is is supposed to do this) my question is why might this have started to happen now. I have lived in this house for over four years and this has never happened before. What could be causing the release to start spilling water. What can I check? Should I try reducing the temperature?: Thanks in advance for your help.
