I agree with John. I had a similar problem with a phantom flush. I finially solved it by applying Silicone Bathroom Tub and Tile Sealant to every joint between the tank (cistern) and the toilet. To find the problem I changed the flapper valve assembly and it still leaked. Upon examining the exit in the tank, I found that It was very rough. Poor workmanship from Kohler. vhh: : My basement toilet is driving me crazy. It will run on its own intermittantly for a few seconds at a time. This tells me I have a leak somewhere but I cant locate it. I have checked the bolts that connect the tank to the bowl, around the floor at the base, and the bowl for cracks-no apparent leaks. I have also replaced my flapper but it still runs! Do you have any further suggestions as to what may be the problem? The only thing I have not done yet is replace the ball cock. Any help would be greatly appreciated. : Hello Betty, if you have a leak which you cant detect then its probably at the syphon checknut. : This joint is out of sight between the toilet and the cistern; any water passing this joint will tend to run harmlessly into the toilet. : You can check for this by adding a dye (coffee works) to the cistern, this will show up in the toilet in a short time. : Im assuming that toilets/cisterns in the usa work the same way as in the uk. : Good luck…..john
