Buy one of those 1/4″ turn angle or straight stops that they now make.
No packing nut to leak, and easier to operate down the road.
You leak could be caused by high water pressure. Check it out.
Most valves don’t leak until they are disturbed, and usually the packing nut is the culprit. Simple fix; give the nut a 1/4 turn and it usually stops.
