Public Hearings on Proposed Rates and Charges to be Effective July 1, 2009

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT in accordance with Section 1045-j (3) and 1045-j (9a) of the Public Authorities Law, public hearings will be held on April 27, 28, 29 and 30, 2009, concerning proposed rates and charges to be effective July 1, 2009, for the use of, or services furnished, rendered or made available by the Water and Wastewater System of the City of New York (the “System”) and concerning changes to other rates and charges and to certain billing policies to be incorporated into the New York City Water Board’s Rate Schedule effective July 1, 2009

Green light for kids to play under the sprinkler

Water Minister Phil Costa today announced the Government will amend Sydney’s water restrictions allowing kids to play under backyard sprinklers on hot days.
Mr Costa said the common sense measure is being introduced ahead of an intense heat wave likely to hit Sydney this weekend

The Rees Government has launched a new toilet replacement service that could save up to 500 million
litres of drinking water a year across Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Illawarra.
Water Minister Phil Costa said the $16 million program aims to replace 20,000 single flush toilets with
four star water efficient dual flush models at a subsidised cost.

Rainwater tank rebates hit 50,000 … and counting

Water Minister Phil Costa today congratulated residents of greater Sydney for continuing
to install rainwater tanks and make their homes more water efficient.
During a visit to the Illawarra today, Mr Costa and Minister for the Illawarra David
Campbell presented a certificate to the George Family of Fairy Meadow for being the
50,000th Sydney Water customer to take advantage of the Government’s rainwater tank
rebate.

Grant to save businesses water and money

Water Minister Phil Costa has today encouraged businesses across Sydney, the Illawarra
and Blue Mountains to apply for grants of up to $20,000 for projects that reduce water use.
Mr Costa said the NSW Government’s pilot Water Saver Grant program could assist small
and medium businesses by funding up to 50 percent of a new water efficient project

Saving water a simple New Year resolution

Water Minister Phil Costa is encouraging Sydneysiders to save money and reduce greenhouse
gas emissions by becoming more water wise this year.
Mr Costa said making even small improvements to water efficiency around the home has a very
positive environmental impact.

$45 million Potts Hill project to boost construction industry in Auburn

Member for Auburn Barbara Perry today said the Rees Government’s $45 million redevelopment of the Potts Hill reservoir site will deliver a welcome boost for the construction industry in the area.
Ms Perry said Brookfield Multiplex would begin construction of a new warehouse and office facility for Sydney Water on the site’s eastern precinct early next year.

New Legionella course includes hands-on assessment training

HC Info’s new three-day training course, “Performing High Quality Legionella Assessments,” will be held May 19-21, 2009 at the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort in Carlsbad, Calif. The course is for engineers, water treatment specialists, and industrial hygienists that want to provide Legionella assessment services for hospitals, hotels, or industrial facilities; and for public environmental health officials that investigate Legionnaires’ disease.

First turbines installed to power Sydney’s desalination plant

Water Minister Phil Costa today announced a significant construction milestone for the Capital Wind
Farm at Bungendore, with assembly complete on the first of 67 wind turbines.
Mr Costa said the wind farm is being built to supply enough renewable energy to run Sydney’s
desalination plant, which comes on line in the summer of 2009-10.
