: Thanks to hj and Willy at APEX Plumbing for their responses re: removing a lead seal around an ABS pipe in a shower. Yes, the people that installed it were idiots and drilling a bunch of holes and prying it out did the trick (and wasted 4 drill bits in the process). Now I have the dilemma of figuring out how to secure a seal between the ABS pipe and the drain collar. The collar is in a fiberglas shower pan and its not iron – I think its stainless. It appears to be factory-installed – there is no nut on the bottom of it to facilitate removal and it is absolutely fused to the bottom of the shower. Is there a retro-fit seal that can be purchased that I can shove down in the collar around the ABS pipe that will make a seal? If I keep prying at the collar I will break the shower floor. Removing the shower pan isnt an option – there is ceramic tile installed all around it. The ABS pipe is so messed up on the outside I think I will have to cut it undernead and put on a new, clean extension. Problem is I only have about 10 inches to work with. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. MARC you might be able to find some stuff called PC-4 it,s like a rope made of twine & cament you dampen it and pound it back in around the pipe stopping short of the top by a 1/2in leave it to dry a couple of days. then seal the top off with silicone. if you cant get thePC-4 you might be able to get some lead wool and install it the same as pc-4. carry on.
