Dishwasher wont drain

My 3-year-old Whirlpool dishwasher refuses to drain. When I set the timer to the wash cycle it sprays just fine, but nothing at all seems to be happening during what should be the drain cycle. Ive tried manually bumping the timer around in an effort to find the right spot for the drain pump to kick in, to no avail.Ideas? Help!
