Closet flange too high

: I am finishing a bathroom in our basement and just installed the closet flange this weekend. I cut the pipe off flush with the concrete floor, then installed the flange. Big problem – the bottom of the flange came only to about a little < 1/2 from the floor. I didnt know that this gap would be a problem, but found that out when trying to install the toilet. Thought about trying to make some kind of a gasket, but instead cut the flange back off flush with the floor. Now must try to get the rest of the flange back out of the original pipe. Dont know if this is impossible or not. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also feel free to reply to my email address.: Thanks,: Leigh M.you will need to make many cuts in the piece left in the pipe about 1/2 apart and with a sharp narrow chisel or screwdriver try to pop these pieces free from pipe with out breaking pipe. once you have done this the next flange you get should be a flush fit flange. they dont have the shoulder on the under edge. remember to be slow and easy removeing pieces.
