Though urinals dont require much water to function properly, most are piped through a commercial flushometer valve, which depends on flow rates and pressures to open and shut properly. So selection will be limited. See a supplier.

Which brand/model would look the best in a home bathroom?Hi!Just saw your November note…and I assume the house is pretty well built…but I certainly DO hope you went ahead and gave your three boys that wonderful gift of their own bathroom urinal! Remarking more from a sociological/anthropological perspective than a plumbing one, I can tell you that once boys have encountered these marvellous devices at school, and learned how much fun they are to use, their attitude (in both senses!) toward the conventional household toilet is never the same. Given a choice, boys naturally prefer to use a urinal, as youve discovered if you ever took a little tyke into a stadium rest room, and heard him LOUDLY DEMAND to use the urinals with the big boys instead of a stall, whether or not he could reach! The home urinal also gives easy social permission for multiple-use time sharing, which cuts down on morning traffic jams. Relying on their normal experience of shared bathroom facilities at school, a boy rushing for the bus certainly can come in to have a quick pee at the urinal without disturbing another boy whos merely using the sink or shower. Also, for general social enlightenment, if you go to http://www.restrooms.org, youll find an instructional web site written by (and for) sensible adult women, who want to match the men at their own game and develop the genteel art of peeing while standing, for reasons of convenience, cleanliness and comfort! Having seen lots of college and university fraternity houses, Im totally convinced that every residence which sports a substantial male population absolutely NEEDS a urinal in every bathroom. The alternative is that the walls and floors become de facto urinals…with or without deliberate intention. In college fraternity houses which lack anatomically correct male plumbing, the bathroom sinks (as well as ALL open windows!) are generally considered acceptable urinals on party nights…but you probably dont want to go there! Basically, I think the absence of bathroom urinals is more a manifestation of cultural prudery than of economics. For that matter, so is the failure of most English-speaking countries to give our kids a blanket parental permission to just pee outdoors (with sensible discretion) when theyre outside and they need to go. This permission ROUTINELY EXISTS in Europe and the rest of the non-English-speaking world. Thanks so much for breaking the cultural taboo and giving your boys a gift theyll really enjoy!
