My perfectly functionning American Standard 88 toilets handle sheared off. I had to pull the chain manually. Suddenly it also would not stop running after the tank filled up. I replaced the handle but it wont stop running unless I place a stick under the arm of the float to hold it up higher. A friend said I should adjust a screw which did not help. What could the problem be? Thank you

What could the problem be? : Thank youHi Judy,Try the following:1) If there is a rod connected from your ballcock to a float ball then try bending the rod downward towards the water a little at a time until the water stops running.2) If the above method fails, you may have a faulty ballcock that is in need of replacement.I hope this helps,Ken
