I have an existing water heater relief drain that was installed to code when my house was built. I am now selling my house and was told that I have to upgrade the drain to the code now in place prior to sale. The water heater has not been changed out. Is this true? Or does the original code still apply
Plumbing code requirements very more than you would think. Almost all municipalities make changes to the codes they adopt. Your best course of action would probably be to ask your local plumbing inspector. He would know the plumbing requirements for sure.
