Hello, I noticed in my basement a copper elbow leaking very slowly. I wanted to solder to stop the leaking. I shut off the water to the house and opened a few faucets to release any pressure. I tried to solder, however the solder would not stick. I cleaned the area and applied flux. While using a tourch, the solder melts but rolls right off. Any ideas or suggestions?Cheers.

Sounds like you need to clean the copper with a fine steel wool or sand papper first then apply flux etc.Apply heat to fitting not the pipe. If this fails then you will need to take apart the joint and start fron scratch with a new fitting etc. BE SURE to clean fitting and pipe to a shine with steel wool or sandpaper then apply flux to fitting and pipe. join then soderGOOD LUCK Doug in the woods
