My Washing machine field line is letting drain water come up on the grass ,,, it acts like its stopped up,,, I have dug up the dirt around where the water is coming no and located the pipe,,its the black pvc pipe with holes in the bottom,,I used a drain king on my garden hose and blew out this line. I also removed more dirt on about 15 more feet of the pipe,, I found a coupling and used the drain king at this location too. I filled these holes with gravel and coverd them back up with dirt,, My question I guess is how much pitch is there to be on a washing machine drain line and does it leach out the water real slow? As what i have done so far ,I dont know yet if it was a waste of time or not yet ,,will take a couple of days to see

The washing machine discharge is normally connected to the Septic System. In Colorado, it is standard practice for the water from the laundry facility to flow to a septic tank, with all of the other sewage generated in the home. The septic tank is sized to allow for 30 hours of hydraulic detention time for the estimated maximum daily flow. The same design criteria applies to grey water systems. It is possible to get a permit for a system to treat only the washing machine discharge, but the design criteria varies from place to place. Therefor, I am reticent to give you any detailed advice in the design of system. In general terms, when the water from a washing machine is applied directly to a leach field, the cloth fibers, and hair contained therein, rapidly clog the soil where the water is being applied. This soil clogging is what has caused the laundry water to surface. If it cannot go down through the soil, it must rise to the surface, flowing in the path of least resistance. The synthetic fibers from modern fabrics do not rapidly decompose in the leach field, so it is recommended that the water be directed into a septic tank before application to the leach field. I also recommend that a septic tank effluent filter be installed in the outlet tee of the tank in order to capture more of the synthetic fibers. For more detailed advice, contact a septic system professional in your area. JWA
