When the water in the house is turned off an banging noise happens. What causes this bang, and is there a way to fix it? What about bleeding the pipes. Will that help? How does one do that. Thank you.

: When the water in the house is turned off an banging : noise happens. What causes this bang, and is there a : way to fix it? What about bleeding the pipes. Will : that help? How does one do that. : Thank you.If the piping system has air chambers on the water supply piping, then draining down the water lines with the faucets open will help elimanate the banging. (If the water heater is electric, turn off power untill the water system is fully charged with a good flow of water from the hot taps for a full minute) If the system doent have air chambers then a good fix is to ad and expansion tank like the Amtrol tanks.
