Hello to all Plumbers, I was wondering if there were any other ex-South African Plumbers who have made a go of it in Australia. I would appreciate any comments or advice, as I am in the throes of emigration at the moment. I am originally from Northern Ireland, but have been running my own small plumbing business for the last 6 years. Looking forward to hearing from you. Ken Gordon, JHB South Africa

Gday from Perth Western Australia, Ken …….. Best advise I can give is to lose the accent …. which ever one you have ……. only Kidding mate but you will need a sense of humour ….. we have lots of Irish pubs that serve lots of Irish beer to lots of Irish, just about everyone in Australia is or thinks they are related to the Irish …….. any day now I expect to come across a Vietnamese who will claim he/she is of Irish decent. Not sure exactly what info you require but if you can be a bit more specific I will try to help.I am not a migrant to Australia and dont know of any Sth Africans in the game here in Perth.: Hello to all Plumbers, : I was wondering if there were any other ex-South African Plumbers who have made a go of it in Australia. Ive been living in Adelaide for the past two years. Im not a Plumber but a supermarket and industrial refridgeration mechanic, and have daily dealings with numerous Plumbing companies in Adelaide and South Australia. I was the propietor of Multi-Air Refridgeration in Joburg for twenty years. I can tell alot about plumbing in South Australia, and a fair amount of the rest of Australia (for I have worked nation wide). I can tell you that 90% of all Australian companies are with-holding all major projects until after June 2000, because of the pending G.S.T. implementation. Wages in comparison with the cost of living in Australia is very bad. The tax system after $50 000 a year is 49%. Australian bosses are very hard to work with because of a very one sided system, and bad wages. To start a business where you employ staff, you will find it hell because of the cost and attitudes. Young kids and teenagers are exposed to a massive drug and alchol. On the bright side the country is relatively crime free and peaceful to live in. I will still see myself back in South Africa in the not too distant future, for I will feel much happer that side.WAGES: The average plumber earns between 12 & 14 dollars an hour. and a Refrigeration mechanic earns between 17 & 22 dollars an hour. With this wage you still have to have your partner working to survive.Have a Happy New year.Regards Pierre GeldenhuysIf you have any further quiries please dont hessitate to contact me. Easy immigration can be done by regional migration into all of Australia excluding Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane. I accesed Australia in this method trouble free in the space of one month.
