Previously you advised silicone to repair a cracked toilet tank. What kind? Spray, caulk, other? Thanks

John: a patch job on a cracked tank is an invitation for a aquatic disaster. Generally the crack that appears in a vitreous china water closet is the result of stresses..These stresses are locked into the fired clay during the cooling process that follows the fireing of the ceramic article. There is no assurance that the tank will not continue to crack. A new toilet tank is far cheaper than new carpeting or flooring, and youll be able to sleep at night or go on vacation without the worry of a flood. Lots of luck…Bud

Unless you have an odd colored toilet, I would not advise trying to patch it. The bad news is that unless it is fairly new, you will not find a tank that will fit it and/or flush it properly. You will have to replace the entire unit, and if the flooring material is caut around the old one, you will also not find one that is the same shape.: Previously you advised silicone to repair a cracked toilet tank. What kind? Spray, caulk, other? Thanks
