I moved into a new condo in December, 1998. The toilet had a bad habit of overflowing. I called in a plumber who removed it and found that there were Q-tips stuck at the base. Problem solved right? Not quite! Since then, the toilet has overflowed twice. What happens is Ill flush the toilet, and the water level will rise and overflow. As soon as I cutoff the water supply, the bowl drains right away. If I turn the water back on… all is fine. Until the next random overflow! Its important to note that on a fairly regular basis, the rubber valve in the tank doesnt fully close. Im forced to tap the lever to re-close it before the water stops flowing. Im at a complete loss. This problem is intermittent and causes quite a bit of anxiety. I have a plumber coming tomorrow (Saturday, May

To Pierre toilet backing up. Eljer is an okay product. You can get a bad bowl on occaision. The Flush valve or flapper is not the cause of your overflow, it is robbing you of water though. Is the new toilet a 1.6 gal low water consumption bowl? Does your condo use a septic tank? Where are you geographically. I live in Toronto, Canada. The condo does not use a septic tank but rather your standard city sewer system. As to whether or not it is a 1.6 gal low water consumption bowl… I couldnt tell you. Im assuming that it is. This building was constructed in 1990 and if Im not mistaken, there was already regulation requiring the installation of low water consumption toilets at the time. In any case, Im still at a complete loss as to what is happening here.Thanks… Pierre
