IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS MY 80 GAL. ELECTRIC HOT WATER HEATER HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING. THE WATER HAS GOTTEN EXTREMELY HOT, THEN SHUTS OFF. I THEN HIT THE RESET BUTTON. IT IS OK FOR A DAY THEN THE HOT WATER AND SHUTS OFF. I HAVE REPLACED THE TWO THERMOSTATS AND STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE NEXT STEP IS TO REPLACE THE ELEMENTS, SHOULD I TRY THIS OR IS A NEW HOT WATER HEATER THE ROUTE TO GO?
Norman,It sounds like there is a problem with the thermostats. If you replaced them make sure the wires are hooked to them right. And make sure the metal backing of the thermostats are in direct contact with the metal of the hot water tank this way the thermostats can sense the temp of the water. It doesnt sound like the elements are bad because if they were you wouldnt have any hot water.Good Luck,Walter Kuntz http://www.testyourwater.com
