My elderly dad just moved into a new apartment and he is complaining about the toilet flushing. Apparently it is fine when it’s just water, but put any solid waste in there and it doesn’t flush… that is, until I show up, and it flushes fine.

So how do I determine that there is a problem? Is there a substitute for “poo” that I can use to show that the system is not flushing as it should? Or for that matter, prove that it is working properly? How do professional plumbers deal with this situation?

I would be happy to work on the problem, or even call a plumber, if I could reproduce the conditions that cause the flushing problem without the mess or inviting everyone over to fill the bowl so that I can test my efforts. :-)

        Thanks,

        Tim
