I live in Texas and my house was built in 1968. My bathtub drain line is 2 inch cast piping about 6 foot from the corner of the house. This is the only thing that drains into this line. Would it be okay for me to run 1.5 inch pvc through this drain and connect the pvc directly to the tub?

Why do you want to do this. I dont think you could push 1-1/2″ pvc through the 2″ soil pipe, it will be caroded and it might not go, just put a 2×1-1/2″ castiron reducer on the pipe and run pvc from there, let me know.

I forgot to mention that the end of the existing pipe is in bad shape. I dug it up and found that whoever fixed it before me had put teflon tape on the outside of a 1.5 inch piece of pvc and hammered it about three inches inside the pipe. Obvious this did not work. So do you think that the 1.5 inch pvc would be enough to drain the tub?

Take the 2″ out and replace it with 1=1/2″
1-1/2″ is the right size for a tub.
