What is the best way to get sump pump water away from the house. Run a pipe to the back of the property, or dig a small well (using a bucket) in the middle of the yard? My house is in an area that is clay and very wet all the time. Pump runs often year round.

        Thanks!

If your soil is saturated clay and you sump pump runs “year round” then the dry well you dig in the back yard is liable to fill up and overflow. The only solution is to make sure the land is well graded away from your house and you divert the water to a place where it can safely drain. If you are tied into a municipal sewer system you could run the water into your building sewer, if that isn’t prohibited by your local code. If you have a septic system don’t put the water into that, as your system will certainly be stressed enough as it is by the poor soil characteristics.
