I LIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF A ‘FLOOD’ PLAIN, IN NE ARKANSAS. IT’S ALL FLAT, AND PEOPLE LOOK AT ME AS IF I’M SPEAKING ANOTHER LANGUAGE WHEN I ASK ABOUT SLOPING FOR PROPER DRAINAGE.

I’VE BEEN TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE MY MAIN LINE, IN WHICH CASE I’M REQUESTING QUOTES. BUT…
EVERYTIME IT RAINS, I SMELL SEWAGE INSIDE AND OUT (LOCAL PLUMBER SAID THIS WAS NORMAL?) AND AFTER IT STOPS RAINING, MY MAIN LINE BACKS UP AND IT HAS TO BE SNAKED. MEANWHILE, IF I USE TILEX IN THE BATHTUB OR BLEACH IN THE WASHING MACHINE, THE SMELL SHOWS UP IN MY HALLWAY, NEXT TO THE RETURN AIR VENT. WHEN THE CENTRAL HEAT/AIR KICKS ON, THE SEWER GAS SMELL IS THEN GENERATED THROUGH THE WHOLE HOUSE. I ALSO HAVE A COMPLETE OUTLINE, OF WHAT LOOKS LIKE THE MAIN LINE UNDER THE CONCRETE FOUNDATION, IN MY CARPET THAT I CAN TRACE FROM THE HALL TO THE CLEAN OUT IN THE FRONT YARD, BUT THE CARPET IS NOT WET! AND SOMETIMES I SMELL THE BLEACH I USED IN THE WASHING MACHINE, IN THE KITCHEN!

WOULD A BETTER SLOPING DRAIN, WITHIN CITY CODE, OF COURSE HELP AT ALL? I DON’T THINK REPLACING THE MAIN LINE OUTSIDE IS GOING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM IN THE HALL, OR IS IT? ANY IDEAS ON WHAT COULD BE GOING ON WITH THIS
        C-r-A-z-Y HOUSE?

HERE’S A LAUGH…I RAN A FSBO AD IN OUR LOCAL PAPER YESTERDAY FOR THIS PLACE AND WOKE UP TO A FRONT YARD FULL OF TOLIET PAPER, FROM THE SEWER LINE!

BEING A FIRST TIME HOMEBUYER, THIS HAS RUINED ME FROM BUYING ANOTHER HOUSE! IF I EVER GET OUT OF THIS, I’LL RENT FROM NOW ‘TIL THE DAY I DIE AND LET SOMEONE ELSE DEAL WITH ALL THIS CRAP! HA!

Sounds like you have a flat sewere and the storm and Sanitary drin into same sewer, also when you have line replaced have a house trap with vent installed.
