A plumber recently installed a new tub. The overflow piping was installed too high and a 1/4″ gap exists between the bottom of the foam gasket (of the overflow)and the overflow opening in the tub. Obviously, water would not enter the overflow pipe.
The plumber fixed it by filling the gap with plumbers puddy. This required puddy to be applied halfway around the circumference of the overflow gasket. QUESTION: Would you consider this an acceptable solution to the problem? Should I expect the installation be performed per the design of the overflow? What risks exist with using puddy as the solution?
