My water heater is depositing black specs on my bathroom tile. The specs are tar like, they smear when rubbed. I had a plumber come out, but he says he doesn’t know what it is. The water heater is about 1.5 years old, and is a State Select. Any ideas? Thanks.
i have seen this a couple of times when braided steel water flex has been used. the rubber inside the flex starts to break down and you get something like tar that comes out and into the fixtures inside. if you have that type of flex line, change them and you should be fine. note: you may have to drain the heater to get the junk out.
