I work for GC in NYC and we have had problems with corrosion/leakage where lead shower pans connect to drain pipes.
Any ideas on what may be causing this or how to avoid this?

Never had trouble like that before, usualy if flange is tighten too tight it will wear out there. Try a piece of that pcv with mastic the roofers use and put a piece around the drian before you tighten the flange down and then put a coat of tar over it.
