I have a Grundfos, hot-water, re-circulating pump that reverberates a low frequency hum throughout the pipes in my house. Are there some insulating unions, or some way to quieten the noise generated by this pump? Do these pumps usually make noise, or might I have a defective pump?
They are usually quiet, but at times the tuned length of the pipe run and the water flow rate set up a hum. This may be changed by a speed change and/or changing the back presure on the pump by turning a balancing valve to adjust the flow. Sometimes the circulator has to be changed out.
