I currently have a recirculating hot water pump in a house I just bought but it pulls well over 10 amps when its running…which is not efficient at all. I’ve heard of a pump that runs at 1 amp or less but I haven’t been able to find anything on it. Is this a myth or is there such a pump out there…if so where can I find it and what is the cost???
The starting amperage of a circulator may hit 10 amps, but it drops to about 1 amp running. A circulator running at a steady 10 amps is above 1/4 horsepower at 110 volts. The usual hot water circulator in a home is 1/12 horsepower or less running at less than 2 amps.
