Sulfer smell in well water

        We have a well that is about 500+ feet deep and every once and a while we get a faint to strong sulfer smell in the water. Can you tell me how to fix this and what it is? (We have a filter on the house that mainly catches the black sandy stuff from the well- we have to clean it out about once a month).
