i have a well dug 390 ft. the driller wants an awful lot to drop the pump & outlet pipe into the well. can i just tie a steel cable around the pump and let it down into the well casing?

Sure you can tie a cable to it and drop it into the well, but I don’t think it will make a big enough splash. It will work a lot better if you install pipe, wire, pitless adapter, torque stop, wire spacers, safety rope, etc.etc.etc.
