My husband and I have just bought a flat in a block which is about 20 years old. We’ve noticed that after using any of the taps in the place, they have to be turned very tight to stop dripping. That is, the water doesn’t seem to turn off immediately.
As it affects the whole flat, could it be an issue with the water supply to the entire block? Or just isolated incidents of leaky washers?
The agents which managed the property when it was let out had the washers changed recently, and even if the problem may have improved, it’s not really satisfactory.

Hi Linda, Get the agent to hire a bonifide plumber not some Jack leg idiot handyman bloke.
A bonifide plumber would not only change the bloody bibb washer BUT check the tap seat to make sure it has no imperfections like scoring of the seat or possible bibb washer retaining ring damage.
Dont let the agent get away with telling you that a tap has to have a lot of pressure to close it.
The plumber who makes this repair should have the common decientcy of also using a key grease on the spline and spindle threads so this faucet willl operate very easily. Good luck
