The hot water heater seems to be doing it’s job; we have enough hot water for us to use. However, on a couple of occassions, I have heard what sounds like water leaking (the sound of when you put water on a hot griddle.) I have looked into the burner and see that it’s blue, except when the water hits it, then it briefly turns yellow/orange. My question is: do I have a leak?, how much longer do I have until it quits, and is there a chance of an explosion with this?
        Thanks for any reply

If this happens after you have been using a lot of hot water, then it is just the flue gases condensing and dripping onto the burner. If it happens when no water is being used or all the time then it is a leak.
