I recently had a furnace humidifer installed. The installer installed a self piercing valve on the cold water pipe coming directly into the water heater. This valve is approximately 10 inches above the regulator. Since the install the regulator has been leaking. Not gushing. Just drips when someone takes a shower.

Should I replace the regulator or did the installation of the self piercing valve do something to the pressure that facilitated the leak?

Watts FBVS-3 150 WSP Regulator. The leak is coming from the Stem Packing/Packing Nut.

You can get some graphite string packing and loosen nut and wrap a couple times around and put nut back and tighten it.

I was really curious about a household regulator with stem packing. I looked it up. The FBVS-3 is a ball valve.
