Connecting Cast Iron bell and spogot with lead and oakum Depending if it is horizontal, vertical or UPSIDE down each has a different way to pour the molten lead. The key is the packing of the oakum and the depth of the lead joint. It used to be 3/4 pounds per inch of dia BUT the new way is 1 pound of lead to one inch diameter so a 2″ joint would require 2 pounds of lead. The lead must be pouered in ONE pouring to make this joint properly. Good Luck ..SylvanLMP
