Showerhead not working correctly

Please explain to me why when I use my shower some water comes out of the showerhead and some out of the faucet. What is wrong and how do I fix this problem.

If the spout floods water out at the same time the shower is engaged then you need a new diverter spout. Or if you have a three handle faucet a new diverter stem for the middle handle, or if it has a small rod under the single lever tub handle a new diverter stem there too.
