After the toilet partially clogged, the bowl would fill to nearly overflowing, then drain to below the normal level. I plunged it a couple of times, now the water is clear, but it seems the flush cycle is, “reversed.”

When I depress the lever, there are a few large air bubbles from the bottom of the bowl, then the toilet fills, then drains below the “second hole” in the bottom, then fills up to a normal “at rest” level.

Is the toilet still clogged someplace, or is there something else going on?

It could be the force of the water squirting down the fill tube in the tank pushing air through. You can adjust the flow so it hits the side of the tube.
